All aboard the norry, Cambodia’s bamboo train! Learn more about the norry’s history and its unique, rudimentary design. En route to the bamboo train, this half-day bicycle tour takes you along numerous architectural sites of Battambang.
On our first stop, we will cycle to a provincial hall known as the Salaket. This hall has been used for numerous government functions and is a popular spot for photographers visiting Battambang. Be sure to take photos of your own!
Next up, we will take you to the “Old Stone Bridge,” the first stone bridge in Battambang. Historically, this bridge was significant during the French colonial period, where it was part of a network of many different trade routes. Today, it is a common meeting point for many local residents.
We will then cycle towards Battambang’s other famous landmark—the statue of Dambong Kronoung. Your guides will tell you more about this well-known figure in Cambodian folklore, from which the name of Battambang is derived.
We will now cycle to the highlight of our tour—the bamboo train! We will all board the train as a group and your guides will tell you all about the intriguing history of the bamboo railway and its role in the reconstruction of Cambodia following the end of the Khmer Rouge regime. Be sure to take plenty of photographs on this truly fun and unique ride!
